Description
This data set contains for the whole of Europe two layers on the anomaly of snow water equivalent. Both visualize the deviation of the estimated snow water equivalent from the average long-term normal. One layer is based on satellite information and the other one on the output of our hydrological model.
Brief information on the individual layers: 1) Satellite-derived snow water equivalent anomaly: Standardized snowpack indicator provided by the Finnish Meteorological Institute. This product is derived from the pan-European Snow Water Equivalent from satellite microwave radiometry blended by snow-measurements from meteorological stations. The classes indicate the deviation of the relative volume of the snow pack on a 10 daily basis compared to the reference period 1979 - 2010. For more information visit http://cryoland.enveo.at/index.php/services/snow-services/pan-european-snow-products/standardized-snow-pack-indicator
2) Model-derived snow water equivalent anomaly: Deviation of the LISFLOOD simulated past 10-day average Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) from normal conditions. The normal conditions have been derived using the simulated SWE from a 22 year model climatology (1991 - 2012). This information is part of the operational suit of EFAS (www.efas.eu) and intends to provide EFAS partners with in-depth information about any current anomaly in snow water equivalent as important supplementary information to better judge upcoming hydrological extremes.
The update frequency of this data set is daily; and the spatial coverage is the extended geographic Europe.
