Products placed on the market in the internal market are subject to general safety requirements. The European Union (EU) has introduced a rapid alert system (Safety Gate/RAPEX) for non-food products which pose a risk to consumers or professional users. Thanks to this system, information is rapidly exchanged and published on measures taken to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of non-food, non-pharmaceutical or non-medical products or devices. Summaries of the alerts are published immediately after having been validated by the Commission on the Safety Gate website. Furthermore, a weekly report is also made available on the website every Friday. The system is available in 25 languages: the EU official languages, Norwegian and Icelandic. It is also possible to make a personalised subscription to the weekly reports in one of the 25 available languages. Subscribers receive a personalised mail according to their subscription.
