International Open Data Conference to begin in 2 days
After months of planning and organising, this week on 6-7 October 2016, Open Data experts will meet in Madrid for the International Open Data Conference. During this event, over 250 speakers from 42 countries will share their views, discuss the use of Open Data and exchange their experience in how to publish or use Open Data. This year, the conference will focus on the potential of Open Data for the development of innovative solutions with a social and economic impact, for example on the role of Open Data for applications in the field of education, health or the industry.
During the two-day event, the programme is not only packed with presentations by renowned speakers but includes 76 sessions organised by the Open Data community itself. These sessions are a selection of over 440 proposals the organisation received from participants willing to organise a workshop, panel or another type of session. During these sessions, participants will respond to a call for Impact, Sharing or Action with a focus on the creation of tangible applications using Open Data.
The European Data Portal and the European Union Open Data Portal will be present at the exhibition with a booth during both days. On Friday 7 October from 08:30 to 09:30 representatives from the European Commission and from both portals will go deeper, together with a representative of the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energía and Tourism, into the European Open Data developments during the main session "Regional talk - Europe". The European Data Portal will also join the pre-event Open Cities Summit to discuss the potential of Open Data at the city level.
