Learn about the key highlights of the webinar on ‘The European Year
of Skills and the role of open data’
On Friday 31 March, the data.europa academy
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy] hosted a webinar on ‘The
European Year of Skills and the role of open data
[https://data.europa.eu/en/unlocking-benefits-open-data-dataeuropaeu]’.
This webinar highlighted the relevance of this theme, focusing on
digital skills and the role of the data.europa academy within the
context of the European Year of Skills. 

The webinar started with a presentation from a European Commission
representative on the European Year of Skills
[https://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?langId=en&catId=89&newsId=10431&furtherNews=yes]
and the Digital Skills Platform
[https://digital-skills-jobs.europa.eu/en]. The targets of the
European Digital Decade
[https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/europes-digital-decade#:~:text=The%20Digital%20Decade%20policy%20programme%202030%20sets%20up%20a%20monitoring,indicators%2C%20in%20an%20implementing%20act.]
were emphasised and the variety of EU initiatives to implement these
were shared. Following this, the representative of data.europa.eu
introduced the objective, lessons and courses of the data.europa
academy
[https://data.europa.eu/en/news-events/news/new-dataeuropa-academy-live],
highlighting the importance of learning about open data and how the
data.europa academy can help improve digital skills. Finally, experts
from the Big Data Value Association [https://www.bdva.eu/] and the
Agency for Digital Italy [https://www.agid.gov.it/en] shared their
experiences with digital skills and trainings at both European and
national levels. The session concluded with a Q&A session and panel
discussion. 

The panel discussion led to interesting conversations about European
initiatives in the context of the European Year of Skills, as well as
data.europa.eu, the data.europa academy and other platforms, courses
and tools for upskilling and developing one´s data knowledge.
Furthermore, the panellists discussed gaps and areas of improvement to
further raise awareness about the importance of digital skills and
available training materials were shared.
