Learn about the key highlights of the webinar ‘Stories of use cases:
Open data to foster European’s economy and way of life’
On Tuesday 25 April 2023, the data.europa academy
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy] hosted the webinar ‘Stories of
use cases: Open data to foster European’s economy and way of
life’. This was the second session in a series of four webinars that
explore how open data can support theEuropean Commission’ political
priorities 2019–2024
[https://european-union.europa.eu/priorities-and-actions/eu-priorities/european-union-priorities-2019-2024_en].
The second webinar focused on two key priorities: Promoting our
European way of life and an economy that works for people
[https://commission.europa.eu/strategy-and-policy/priorities-2019-2024/economy-works-people_en].

To address its main challenges, the European Union has defined six
priorities for the political and policy agenda until 2024. Promoting a
European way of life is about protecting citizens, standing up for
justice and EU’s core values on a legal, political and economic
basis. Furthermore, an economy that works for people focuses on
growing the economy to grow and reducing poverty and inequality. In
response to these social, economic and governmental challenges, this
webinar presented open data driven initiatives that aligned with these
priorities.

The webinar started with an introduction on the political priorities
following presentations from two use cases. First, Wonder Wanderlust
Women [https://www.iter-idea.com/tag/www/] presented their portal that
guides women between 20 and 25 years old in search of the most
suitable destination in Europe to study, work and live using open
data. Second, YouthPop [https://youthpop.eu/] presented how their web
application, based on historical open data, connects young job seekers
with opportunities based on public procurement. The webinar concluded
with a panel discussion with the representatives from the use cases,
who answered questions and shared insights on how open data aligns
with the respective political priorities.
