Open data to make Europe fit for the digital age’
On FRIDAY 30 JUNE FROM 10.00 TO 11.30 CET, the data.europa academy
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy] will host the fourth and final
edition of the webinar series ‘Stories of use cases’, focusing on
the EU political priorities. Open data has vast potential to achieve
strategic priorities and tackle societal, economic and governmental
issues. Through its data.europa academy, the Publications Office has
organised previous editions, highlighting how open data can contribute
to the EU political priorities of the European Green Deal
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gu5yJ99uKHE], a new push for European
democracy [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxCQHKUly44], and promoting
a European way of life and an economy that works for people
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqIk8IjKdxQ].

The final session presents open data and how it supports Europe on its
journey into the digital age, through three examples of
open-data-driven initiatives that empower people with a new generation
of technologies. These use cases help strengthen Europe’s digital
sovereignty and set standards, with a clear focus on data, technology
and infrastructure. In this webinar, we will count on the
participation of:

 	* The Big Data Test Infrastructure,
[https://big-data-test-infrastructure.ec.europa.eu/index_en] a
ready-to-use, free of charge, analytics platform offered to European
public administrations for experimenting with open-source tools and
fostering the reuse of the public sector data,
 	* Lobium/Gavagai [https://www.lobium.ai/] and 100 Europeans
[https://www.100europeans.org/], two apps that won the challenge ‘A
Europe fit for the digital age’ of EU Datathon 2022.

The webinar will start with an introduction on making Europe fit for
the digital age
[https://commission.europa.eu/strategy-and-policy/priorities-2019-2024/europe-fit-digital-age_en].
Then, representatives from the various use cases will share their
experiences and insights regarding the role of open data and digital
innovations. These presentations will be followed by an interactive
discussion where participants can identify barriers and explore ways
in which citizens, developers, academia, and representatives from the
public and private sector can further support a smoother digital
transition.
