Research on the potential of virtual assistants in governmental open
data portals
As part of their thesis project, a computer science undergraduate
student from the University of Tartu is developing a prototype that
integrates with the data.europa.eu SPARQL API.
[https://data.europa.eu/nl/about/sparql] To gather insights from
individuals who interact with open government data portals, the
student has  recently launched a survey titled ‘Potential Use and
Functionality of Virtual Assistants for Open Government Data Portals

assistants in governmental open data portals can play an important
role in democratising the value of open data by simplifying access and
helping users find the data they need more efficiently. Examples of
such implementations include Estonia’s Bürokratt
[https://www.ria.ee/en/state-information-system/personal-services/burokratt]
project, which enables citizens to access public services through
voice-based interactions with virtual assistants.

The survey, which is open until 1 April, invites participants to share
their thoughts on the usefulness of virtual assistants in navigating
and interacting with open government data. The findings will help
inform the development of a tool designed to improve the accessibility
and usage of publicly available datasets. The survey will take
approximately 5 to 7 minutes to complete, and all responses are
anonymous. Your input is greatly appreciated!
