Register now for our upcoming webinar, ‘Charting the currents: the
potential of open marine data
[https://data.europa.eu/en/news-events/events/webinar-charting-currents-potential-open-marine-data]’,
on FRIDAY, 13 JUNE 2025, FROM 10:00 TO 11:00 CEST. Covering over 70%
of the Earth’s surface, our oceans are essential to life, climate
regulation, and the global economy. However, they are increasingly
under threat from climate change, pollution, and overfishing. This
webinar will explore how open marine data is helping to address these
challenges through practical, real-world applications.

Participants will gain insights from two real-world case studies. The
first highlights the Marine Analyst [http://marine-analyst.eu/],
launched in 2020, which simplifies access to global marine datasets
and analytical tools, supporting use cases from climate research to
marine renewable energy. The second focuses on a pilot study along
Poland’s Hel Peninsula, where hydrodynamic monitoring and numerical
modelling are paving the way for a digital twin of the Southern Baltic
Sea. These examples demonstrate how open data can support
evidence-based decision-making and innovative environmental solutions.

Open marine data plays a crucial role in advancing EU priorities such
as the European Green Deal
[https://commission.europa.eu/strategy-and-policy/priorities-2019-2024/european-green-deal_en], the EU
Biodiversity Strategy
[https://environment.ec.europa.eu/strategy/biodiversity-strategy-2030_en],
and the EU Mission: Restore our Ocean and Waters
[https://research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu/funding/funding-opportunities/funding-programmes-and-open-calls/horizon-europe/eu-missions-horizon-europe/restore-our-ocean-and-waters_en]. By
making high-quality data accessible, researchers, policymakers, and
industry professionals are empowered to collaborate more effectively
and address complex marine challenges. At data.europa.eu
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy/guidelines-ensuring-quality-open-data-and-metadata],
we actively support these efforts by providing access to a wide range
of datasets on marine-related topics, such as marine pollution
[https://data.europa.eu/data/datasets?locale=en&query=marine+pollution&page=1],
 through our data portal.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain practical insights, learn from
experts, and discover tools that can help you unlock the potential of
open marine data. Register now
