Open marine data and Public Procurement Data Space: A recap of our
June webinars
This June, the data.europa academy [https://data.europa.eu/en/academy]
hosted two educational webinars, diving into the potential of open
data in marine environments and public procurement. Together, these
sessions welcomed over 900 registrations on 13 and 27 June.

The first session, ‘Charting the currents: the potential of open
marine data’
[https://data.europa.eu/en/news-events/events/webinar-charting-currents-potential-open-marine-data],
took place on 13 June and explored how open marine data can support
sustainable ocean governance, scientific research, and innovation.
Guest speakers from the Marine Analyst [http://marine-analyst.eu/] and
a professor of applied marine science and engineering shared insights
into real-world applications, ranging from climate monitoring to
maritime spatial planning. The webinar highlighted the importance of
interoperability and accessibility in unlocking the full value of
marine datasets. The webinar was recorded, and both the recording

now available for viewing.

On 27 June, the webinar ‘Data spaces: experience from the Public
Procurement Data Space’
[https://data.europa.eu/en/news-events/events/webinar-data-spaces-experience-public-procurement-data-space]
offered a deep dive into the development Public Procurement Data Space
[https://www.public-procurement-data-space.europa.eu/en], a data space
dedicated to public procurement. Experts from the Commission presented
the goals, architecture, and early lessons from this initiative, which
aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and cross-border
collaboration in public spending. If you missed the webinar, you can
watch the recording

the slides

Both webinars underscored the growing role of data in Europe’s
digital transformation and the importance of sector-specific
approaches to data sharing. Whether navigating the oceans or
optimising public procurement, these sessions demonstrated how open
data can drive smarter, more sustainable decisions.
