Data.europa.eu: your single access point to open data
The European Union Open Data Portal and the European Data Portal are
joining forces to become the single access point to open data from
Europe and beyond.

Data will play a key role in our lives. Sometimes called ‘the new
infrastructure’, they form a basis for research and innovation and
for the development of new products, services, and powerful
technologies. Innovations arising from open data will improve our
lives and boost economic growth. Open data is a powerful resource that
is freely available for reuse to all citizens.

The European Commission encourages cross-border use of reusable data
in Europe and open data portals have acquired a key role in providing
access to this valuable resource.

For this end, the Publications Office of the European Union launched
the data.europa.eu to provide a central point of access and improve
access to open data and to increasing awareness on its value and
potential.

Data.europa.eu is the central point of access to over 1 million
datasets from 6 EU institutions, 79 agencies and bodies, 36 countries
and other international organisations. It will facilitate and promote
reuse and facilitate data interoperability and linking between
different portals and showcase the enormous socioeconomic
environmental impact of public data resources in our world.

Furthermore, it will provide support to EU institutions and Member
States to publish data via communities of practice of
national open data portal and policy owners.
