Discover the data.europa academy: Sixth course, ‘Moving towards data
spaces’
Data spaces aim to support data sharing across sectors, shaping our
society and economy. The sixth course of the restructured data.europa
academy
[https://data.europa.eu/en/news-events/news/dataeuropa-academy-discover-our-11-open-data-courses]
called ‘Moving towards data spaces
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy/moving-towards-data-spaces]’,
will dive deeper into data spaces by introducing the concept of these
open data platforms, the infrastructures, user needs and developments,
the role of data.europa.eu [https://data.europa.eu/en] and the future
of data portals.

Data spaces are ecosystems that operate based on shared policies and
rules to overcome legal and technical barriers to data sharing. The
first lesson, ‘Introduction to open data platforms
[https://data.europa.eu/elearning/en/module8/#/id/co-01]’, will help
you get up to speed with the meaning of open data platforms and why
they are important. In the second lesson, ‘Mid- and long-term
sustainability of (open) data portal infrastructures
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy/mid-and-long-term-sustainability-open-data-portal-infrastructures]’,
you will learn how open data ecosystems ensure that open data portals
remain relevant for the years to come.

One of the key components when developing an open data ecosystem is to
make sure what users’ needs are. You will learn how to involve users
in the design and development of an open data portal in the third
lesson, ‘Understanding user needs and the development of the portal
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy/understanding-user-needs-and-development-portal]’.
Furthermore, data.europa.eu [https://data.europa.eu/en] plays an
important role when creating an open data portal, which you will
discover in the fourth lesson ‘The role of data.europa.eu in EU data
spaces
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy/role-dataeuropaeu-eu-data-spaces]’.
To get a solid understanding of what is expected from open data
portals in the future, webinars and reading materials in the last
lesson ‘The future of open data portals
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy/future-open-data-portals]’ cover
new concepts and ideas on how a data portal should be build.
