Digital Decade
On 27 September, the European Commission published the first report on
the state of the Digital Decade
[https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/library/2023-report-state-digital-decade].
This report assesses the European Union’s progress towards a
successful digital transformation for its people and describes how the
European Union is advancing towards the agreed targets and objectives,
for businesses and the environment, as outlined in the decisions
[https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dec/2022/2481/oj] establishing the
Digital Decade Policy Programme 2023

The first part of the report reviews the latest digital policy
developments and European Union's progress towards the established
goals and objectives. It also includes the monitoring of the European
Declaration on Digital Rights and Principles for the Digital Decade,
translating the vision of the European Union for digital
transformation into principles and commitments. Each country has a
separate report represented in an annex to provide a more detailed
overview of the country’s progress toward the Digital Decade
objectives and targets.

The report states that the success of the Digital Decade is going to
be critical for the EU’s future prosperity and that achieving the
EU’s Digital Decade agenda can potentially unlock over 2.8 trillion
euros in economic value, which is equivalent to 21% of the EU’s
current economy. It also highlights the need to accelerate and
strengthen collective efforts in digital tools, skills, and
infrastructure, using policy and investment. Finally, the report
includes concrete recommendations to Member States that are at
different stages of adopting their national strategic roadmaps and
making adjustments in the future.
