Our 2024 User Survey Assessment: Key findings and fresh insights
We are excited to share the findings from our 2024 User Survey
Assessment, an initiative designed to deepen our understanding of the
data.europa.eu [https://data.europa.eu/en] user community. The survey,
conducted last September and October, explored a range of topics,
including user demographics, preferred content, and experiences with
our platform. Since its launch in 2022, this annual assessment has
allowed us to identify trends and track changes over time.

One key trend revealed that the majority of our users are aged between
35 and 54, and their representation within our community has grown
steadily over the years. Interestingly, while 29% of users come from
the private sector, the largest group of visitors belongs to the
educational sector (i.e., university academics and students),
highlighting the growing importance of open data in educational
content across Europe.

User preferences for content types have remained consistent, with
datasets [https://data.europa.eu/data/datasets?locale=en], open data
statistics
[https://data.europa.eu/catalogue-statistics/currentState/category?locale=en],
and studies [https://data.europa.eu/en/publications/studies] being the
most sought-after resources on the portal. However, this year’s
results show a notable shift in user interests. Artificial
intelligence and high-value datasets have become the most popular
topics in 2024, replacing legal aspects, which dominated in 2023.

The survey also revealed that users appreciate the quality and
accessibility of content on data.europa.eu. Additionally, the results
provide us with valuable insights into areas for improvement. Based on
this feedback, we plan to focus on enhancing search results, updating
content, and offering advanced research support in 2025 and beyond.

The survey will continue to be conducted annually to identify evolving
trends and better understand our users' needs. We remain committed to
improving the portal’s user experience—so stay tuned for updates
on data.europa.eu [https://data.europa.eu/en]!
