The European Data Strategy: A recap of our January webinar
In January we started the year by hosting the webinar ‘Navigating
the European data strategy: the progress towards the single market of
data
[https://data.europa.eu/en/news-events/events/webinar-navigating-european-data-strategy-progress-towards-single-market-data]’,
providing participants with valuable insights into the evolving legal
landscape of open data. With over 1 100 registrants the webinar
sparked a lot of interest in the open data community, highlighting the
topic’s relevance.

The webinar aimed to offer attendees a comprehensive understanding of
key EU data policies. Experts from the European Commission elaborated
on major legislative drivers that are shaping European data policies,
focusing specifically on the Data Governance Act
[https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/data-governance-act],
high-value datasets, and the Open Data Directive
[https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?qid=1561563110433&uri=CELEX:32019L1024].
The session explored how these legal frameworks are guiding Europe's
journey towards a data-driven economy that promotes growth and
innovation.

While the webinar was based on the European Data Strategy 2020
[https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A52020DC0066],
the speakers also provided a forward-looking perspective, highlighting
future policies under the new European Commission 2024-2029
[https://commission.europa.eu/about/commission-2024-2029_en]. It
concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to
ask their remaining questions. As the open data landscape continues to
evolve rapidly, staying informed on policy updates remains crucial for
stakeholders across sectors. If you missed the session, you can
