Open Data Day and Smart City Dublin: A recap of our March sessions
In March, the data.europa.eu academy
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy] celebrated Open Data Day
[https://opendataday.org/] with a webinar that emphasised the
importance of data and metadata quality. Additionally, the future of
urban management was explored in a session focused on the smart city
of Dublin.

The first webinar, 'From data to metadata: enhancing quality across
borders'
focused on the importance of high-quality data and metadata in
cross-border contexts. Global experts, including the CEOs of the Open
Knowledge Foundation [https://okfn.org/en/] and Open Data Charter
[https://opendatacharter.org/], shared various approaches for ensuring
data quality. A live demonstration of the Open Data Editor
[https://opendataeditor.okfn.org/] gave attendees a sneak peek into
its capabilities, while a policy officer from the Danish Agency for
Digital Government discussed metadata improvements on the Danish open
data portal. The session concluded with an interactive panel
discussion, where speakers addressed audience questions. The webinar
was recorded, and both the recording

The second webinar, ‘Smart cities and digital twin technology: the
case of Dublin'
explored how Dublin is using digital twin technology for urban
planning and management. The city’s virtual replica, Smart Dublin
[https://smartdublin.ie/], enables real-time monitoring and analysis.
Representatives from the digital twin partnership between Smart D8
[https://smartd8.ie/?pk_campaign=dataeuropaeu-newsletter-march-2025&pk_source=newsletter&pk_medium=email] and
the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC)
[https://www.ichec.ie/?pk_campaign=dataeuropaeu-newsletter-march-2025&pk_source=newsletter&pk_medium=email] presented
practical use cases and technical solutions, concluding with an
interactive Q&A session. If you missed the webinar, you can watch the
