Open judicial data: A recap of our May webinar
In May, the data.europa academy hosted the webinar ‘Open judicial
data, AI, and transparency in the digital age’
[https://data.europa.eu/en/news-events/events/webinar-open-judicial-data-ai-and-transparency-digital-age].
The session explored the intersection of artificial intelligence and
judicial data, highlighting the importance of transparency in the
digital era. The webinar attracted over 700 registrants, interested to
learn how AI can enhance the accessibility and openness of judicial
information.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn from a judicial expert from the
Council of Europe, who discussed the importance and application of
open judicial data for justice transparency and accessibility. The
session covered various possibilities, such as automated
summarisation, as well as limitations and risks, including those
associated with commercial tools. Following this, a professor from the
University of Oslo presented best practices for licensing and reusing
judicial decisions across Europe, drawing on insights from his
research in the field.

The webinar was concluded with an engaging Q&A session, allowing
participants to ask their questions directly to the experts. The
session provided valuable insights into leveraging AI for judicial
transparency and the necessary steps for ethical and effective
implementation. For those who missed the session, the recording
