Public consultation on the use of data to develop the future of AI:
The European Data Union Strategy
The Commission has created a public consultation for its upcoming
European Data Union Strategy
[https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/news/commission-seeks-views-use-data-develop-artificial-intelligence]
(EDUS). This strategy is an initiative aimed at defining EU data
policy for the coming years and wants to focus on expanding the
availability and use of data to support AI development. By doing so,
the strategy can help strengthen the Commission’s role in shaping
international data flows and structure the EU’s complex data
regulatory framework.

The public consultation is open to all citizens, businesses,
researchers, and public authorities interested in participating. The
consultation will run for eight weeks, closing on 18 July 2025.
Participants can share their views and opinions through the Have Your
Say
[https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/PC_DUS2025?surveylanguage=en]
questionnaire in a confidential manner and join the discussion about
how we can foster the creation of an inclusive and innovative
data-driven future. The Commission has also published a detailed Call
for Evidence
[https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say/initiatives/14541-European-Data-Union-Strategy_en]
which outlines the overall goals and scope of the strategy.

This initiative is part of the EU’s broader digital strategy to
ensure that data-driven innovation aligns with their values and is in
favour of economic welfare. The EDUS encourages open data by shaping
their core goals towards increasing the availability and usage of data
across all sectors. The data.europa.eu [https://data.europa.eu/en]
portal sets forth this initiative by making data within the EU more
accessible and easily usable.

The European Data Union Strategy aims to support the wider
availability and usage of data to simplify and streamline the EU’s
data regulatory landscape. This way, we ensure that Europe remains
open and assertive when shaping international data flows. Contribute
to the vision by partaking in the questionnaire and the dialogue on
how you would like to see the future of data.
