Our 2025 User Survey Assessment: New insights and ideas going forward
We are thrilled to share the findings from our 2025 User Survey, an
initiative which helps deepen our understanding of the wants and needs
of the European Data Portal’s users. From Monday, 1 September, to
Sunday, 13 October 2025, we invited you to share your thoughts on how
you use our portal and what matters most to you. The response was
incredible, and your feedback is already guiding the next steps
towards improving the European Data Portal.

One key trend revealed that for most of the respondents (39%), the
main source of open data is the European Data Portal. The survey
confirmed what we expected: most of you visit the portal to access
datasets that support your work, research, or decision-making. Others
use it to explore open data concepts or find inspiration for policy
development. This diversity shows how important it is to keep the
portal relevant and useful for all these needs.

The survey also revealed that users appreciate the data availability
and variety on the European Data Portal, as well as the accessibility
of the portal, as well as the training and education opportunities.
Users have indicated that they would like to see more improvements in
the filtering and search functionalities of the portal, as well as the
mobile experience of the portal and the user interface. With these
insights, we look forward to working on an improved portal together
with you this year.

Finally, we asked about our data.europa academy
[https://data.europa.eu/en/academy]. We found that from the
respondents that did use the academy’s services, 86% said they would
highly recommend the platform to their peers. We are already working
on updates based on your input, so stay tuned for what comes next. In
the meantime, your ideas remain essential. Even though the survey is
closed, you can still share suggestions through our contact form
[https://data.europa.eu/en/contact-us]. Together, we can make the
portal more useful for everyone.

The survey will continue to be conducted annually to identify evolving
trends and better understand our users' needs. We remain committed to
improving the portal’s user experience, so stay tuned for updates!
