Open data for crisis response and resilience: Lessons from Europe
Across Europe, recent crises have shown how quickly situations can
escalate and how essential reliable data is in moments of uncertainty.
On Friday, 24 April 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 CEST, the data.europa.eu
academy [https://data.europa.eu/en/academy] will host an online
webinar ‘Open data for crisis response and resilience: cases from
European & national institutions’
[https://dataeuropaacademy.clickmeeting.com/webinar-open-data-for-crisis-response-and-resilience-cases-from-european-national-institutions-/register],
exploring how open data can support effective crisis response and
long-term resilience at both European and national level.

The webinar features two speakers who approach crisis response from
different institutional perspectives. Auriane Denis Loupot from the
European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil
Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO)
will introduce the analytical services of the Emergency Response
Coordination Centre
[https://civil-protection-humanitarian-aid.ec.europa.eu/what/civil-protection/emergency-response-coordination-centre-ercc_en].
Her contribution will show how open data supports early warning
systems, resource mobilisation and cross-border coordination during
natural hazards such as wildfires.

Ines Bedar, Legal advisor to the Prime Minister's Services, will
complement this with practical experience from the French Prime
Minister’s office during the COVID‑19 pandemic, including lessons
from France’s COVID‑19 dashboard, the reuse of hospital data
systems and collaboration with civil society under high pressure.

The session highlights how timely, interoperable and accessible data
enables faster decision-making, improves coordination across
institutions and helps public authorities respond more effectively
when it matters most. It also shows why open data is a critical asset
for building trust and strengthening public systems before the next
crisis occurs. Register now
