COUNCIL DECISION (CFSP) 2021/2161

of 6 December 2021

amending Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 in support of the South-Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC) for the implementation of the Regional Roadmap on combating illicit arms trafficking in the Western Balkans

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,

Having regard to the Treaty of the European Union, and in particular Articles 28(1) and 31(1) thereof,

Having regard to the proposal from the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy,

Whereas:

On 19 November 2018, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 (1).

(2)

Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 provides for a 36-month implementation period for the activities referred to in Article 1 thereof from the date of the conclusion of the agreement referred to in Article 3(3) thereof.

(3)

The implementing partner, the United Nations Development Programme, acting on behalf of the South-Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, requested an extension of the implementation period of Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 until 17 October 2022, in view of the delay in the implementation of project activities under Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The continuation of the activities referred to in Article 1 of Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 until 17 October 2022 can be performed without any consequences as regards financial resources.

(5)

Article 5(2) of Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 should therefore be amended accordingly,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

Article 5(2) of Decision (CFSP) 2018/1788 is replaced by the following:

‘2.   This Decision shall expire on 17 October 2022.’.

Article 2

This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.
