COUNCIL IMPLEMENTING REGULATION (EU) 2016/276

of 25 February 2016

implementing Article 8a(1) of Regulation (EC) No 765/2006 concerning restrictive measures in respect of Belarus

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,

Having regard to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union,

Having regard to Council Regulation (EC) No 765/2006 of 18 May 2006 concerning restrictive measures in respect of Belarus (1), and in particular Article 8a(1) thereof,

Having regard to the proposal of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy,

Whereas:

On 18 May 2006, the Council adopted Regulation (EC) No 765/2006.

(2)

On 25 February 2016, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2016/280 amending Decision 2012/642/CFSP concerning restrictive measures against Belarus (2), extending the application of the restrictive measures until 28 February 2017 and amending Annex I and deleting Annex II to that Decision.

Annex I to Regulation (EC) No 765/2006 should therefore be amended accordingly,

HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION:

Article 1

Annex I to Regulation (EC) No 765/2006 is replaced by the text set out in the Annex to this Regulation.

Article 2

This Regulation shall enter into force on the day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

This Regulation shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.

Former Minister of Interior and also former Head of the President's Security Service. As a Minister of Interior he was responsible for the repression of peaceful demonstrations until his retirement on 6 April 2009 for health reasons. Received a residence in the Drozdy nomenklatura district in Minsk from the Presidential Administration. In October 2014, was awarded the Order “For Merit” III degree by President Lukashenka.
