Serbia’s open data portal: Connecting data, users and innovation

A growing platform for transparent and reusable public sector information

The Serbian Open Data Portal is strengthening access to public sector information by bringing together datasets, application programming interfaces (APIs), and examples of data reuse in a single, user-friendly platform. Designed as a central access point for open government data in Serbia, the portal enables citizens, businesses, researchers and public authorities to discover, access and reuse information from a wide range of institutions. It also supports community engagement by allowing registered users to publish datasets and showcase examples of how open data can be used in practice.

Visitors can explore datasets across diverse themes, including public finance, mobility, education, health, public administration, and the Sustainable Development Goals. The platform provides access to a variety of resources, from business registers and financial reporting APIs to traffic safety statistics, address data and air quality information. By making these datasets openly available, the portal helps improve transparency while supporting evidence-based decision-making and digital innovation.

One of the portal’s distinctive features is its strong focus on data reuse. Alongside datasets, users can browse practical examples demonstrating how open data can be transformed into web applications, visualisations, maps and other digital services. This creates a valuable bridge between data publication and real-world impact, helping users understand the potential of open data beyond download and analysis.

As Serbia continues to expand its open data ecosystem, the Open Data Portal serves as both a repository and a collaboration space. By connecting data providers with data users and highlighting successful reuse cases, the platform contributes to a more transparent, innovative and data-driven society.
