Proposal for a revised Public-Sector Information (PSI) Directive

New opportunities for European businesses and better services for people

The European Commission adopted a proposal for a revised PSI Directive. The proposal aims to overcome the barriers that still prevent the full re-use of public sector information and to make public sector data and public research data more available. One focus is supporting start-ups in their work with Open Data. The changes proposed are to:

  • Reduce market entry barriers, in particular for SMEs;
  • Increase the availability of data by bringing new types of public and publicly funded data into the scope of the Directive, such as research data and scientific information resulting from public funding;
  • Minimise the risk of excessive first-mover advantage;
  • Increase business opportunities by encouraging the dissemination of dynamic data via application programming interfaces (APIs).

The proposal is now being discussed with the European Parliament and the Council. Find more details about the Proposal for a revision of the Public-Sector Information (PSI) Directive.
