European Big Data Hackathon to take place in Brussels

Event taking place from 13 to 15 March 2017

The European Big Data Hackathon will gather teams from all over Europe to compete for the best data product combining official statistics and big data to support policy makers in one pressing policy question facing Europe. The Hackathon will take place in Brussels from 13 to 15 March 2017, back to back with the NTTS 2017.

Teams of three members are to be proposed by National Statistical Institutes and can include members of the national data science community, staff of the statistical office or a partnership of both. If you wish to participate, feel free to contact the National Statistical Institute in your country. Acceptance will depend on the availability of places. Travel and accommodation, up to 4 nights in Brussels, for the participation of up to one team per EU Member State in the Hackathon will be supported by the European Commission.

The applications have to use a big data source and should ideally also use European official statistics. The winner and the two runners-up will present their prototypes at a plenary session of the NTTS 2017 conference. A detailed description including practical information can be found here.
