On Tuesday 1 December, the Future of Open Data Portals webinar series hosted Julia Elliott, a lead of the Competitions team at Kaggle. Kaggle is a platform where data science enthusiasts can work on data science problems, share code, and participate in competitions in a team-environment. During the session, Julia discussed how Kaggle uses machine learning algorithms that form the competitions, what the backgrounds of the competitors are, and which competitions are currently popular and running.
