Slovakia approves ICT standards guide

Specific Open Data definitions are included

Standards are an important means to improve the interoperability of information systems. In March of this year, the Slovak government officially approved the adoption of the guideline on ICT standards, including specific Open Data definitions. The guide is an official addendum to Slovakia's 2015 Decree on ICT standards, and provides detailed instructions for public sector organisations regarding the use and procurement of ICT solutions.

The guideline is made available online, which makes it easy to keep the documents up to date, explains the Ministry of Finance on its portal for the Information Society. Furthermore, the guideline provides definitions related to Open Data. It pushes public administrations to use open application programming interfaces (APIs) to enable integration with other software applications, including those built or used by businesses or citizens. In September last year, Slovakia already announced that by 2020, 40% of its public administration ICT systems should use open source software.
