European Week of Regions and Cities: Local voices shaping Europe

Celebrating the role of local and regional governments in building a stronger Europe

From Monday 13 October to Wednesday 15 October 2025, The European Week of Regions and Cities returns to Brussels exploring how local and regional authorities are driving sustainable growth and implementing EU policies on the ground.

This annual event, co-organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy  and the European Committee of the Regions, is the largest of its kind focused on regional development in Europe. Now in its 23rd edition, the event features over 100 sessions and networking opportunities around themes such as the green transition, digital transformation, and social inclusion. With this year’s focus on empowering local action for European resilience, the programme includes interactive workshops, exhibitions, and high-level debates. These sessions highlight how regional projects across Europe are shaping a more sustainable, innovative, and cohesive European Union.

Open data is a key enabler of these developments. By improving transparency, supporting evidence-based policy, and encouraging citizen engagement, open data strengthens regional governance. Platforms like the European Data Portal give public authorities access to thousands of datasets, from urban mobility and climate adaptation to regional economic performance, empowering regions and cities to make smarter, data-driven decisions.
