LaLiga publishes data on COVID-19 for advancing medical research

A collaboration project with Fundación 29 and Microsoft

To support and advance medical research, Fundación 29 and LaLiga, in collaboration with Microsoft, have published several open datasets including anonymised results of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and antibody tests of the players and staff of LaLiga clubs, the professional football division of the Spanish league.

By publishing these data, LaLiga aims to improve prevention mechanisms in a medical challenge such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In such a situation it is vital that organisations collaborate to collect data and make it available to the community.

The dataset can be used for research purposes and is accessible through HealthData 29, Fundación 29’s data sharing platform.

“At Fundación 29, we know from experience that one of the main problems in biomedical research is that health data is often in the possession of health institutions and is not accessible to researchers or patients themselves. For this reason, we have created the HealthData 29 platform, a tool that helps to bring together the anonymised data generated by any disease, so that management can respond faster, and in a comprehensive and agile way. This is what we have done with the invaluable help of Microsoft”, according to the medical director of Fundación 29, Carlos Mascías Cadavid.

With the Open Data Campaign, Microsoft aims to help organisations unlock the potential of data by sharing and collaborating around data, so that it can be used to solve some of the most complex global challenges right now.
