Creative Europe: Supporting culture, creativity and collaboration across Europe
The European Union programme helps cultural and creative sectors grow, innovate and connect across borders
The European Union’s Creative Europe programme supports cultural, creative and audiovisual sectors across Europe through funding, networking and cross-border cooperation. Since 2014, the programme has helped organisations and professionals foster cultural diversity, strengthen artistic expression and unlock the economic potential of Europe’s creative industries. Managed by the European Commission, Creative Europe is structured around three strands: Culture, MEDIA, and a cross-sectoral strand.
The Culture strand supports initiatives such as international cooperation projects, European networks, platforms and literary translation, while the MEDIA strand focuses on the audiovisual sector by helping develop, distribute, and promote European films and other audiovisual works. In addition, the cross-sectoral strand encourages collaboration between different cultural and creative sectors and supports policy development and innovation. Through these actions, Creative Europe helps creative professionals reach wider audiences and build stronger partnerships across Europe.
Creative Europe also has strong links to the open data ecosystem. Information on funded projects, results and programme activities in publicly available through the European Commission’s Creative Europe Project Results platform, enabling researchers, policymakers and citizens to explore how EU funding supports cultural and creative activities. Access to such information promotes transparency, encourages evidence-based policymaking and helps stakeholders better understand the impact of investment in Europe’s cultural and creative sectors.
