Register now for our next webinar ‘Observing our planet through data: Destination Earth’

Join us on Friday, 13 February, from 10:00 to 11:30 CET to explore Europe’s digital twin of the Earth

Make sure to reserve your spot for the next data.europa academy webinar ‘Observing our planet through data: Destination Earth’, scheduled for Friday, 13 February 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 CET. This session explores the world of earth observation (EO) data and illustrates how European efforts turn continuous streams of satellite observations into clear, actionable insights that support science, innovation, and policy development.

Earth observation (EO) data helps us understand how our planet is changing. From monitoring forests and oceans to predicting natural hazards, EO data provides essential insights for science, policy, and society. From tracking developments in forests and oceans to supporting early warnings for natural hazards, EO data provides essential information for researchers, policymakers, and society at large. To introduce these foundations, Antje Kügeler from con terra will open the webinar with an accessible overview of what EO data is, how it is collected, and why it matters.

The webinar will then explore Destination Earth, the European Commission’s flagship effort to create a digital twin of the planet. Daniel Draghicescu from DG CNECT will discuss the policy goals behind the initiative and highlight its potential applications. To complement this, Michael Schick from EUMETSAT will provide a high‑level technical overview, explaining how the platform, data lake, and digital twins interact to simulate natural and human systems.

Do you want to understand how EO data feeds into Europe’s digital twin initiative and what opportunities this creates for research and policy? Make sure to register for the webinar and join the conversation!
