On Friday, 10 July, the data.europa academy hosted a webinar titled ‘Data without borders: the role of non-EU countries in European data initiatives’. The session brought together experts and participants to explore how cooperation with non-European Union countries supports transparency, innovation, and evidence-based policymaking. Speakers from Ukraine and Serbia shared their experiences in advancing open data ecosystems while aligning with European standards, highlighting why international collaboration is essential for a stronger European data landscape.
During the session, participants heard from Yanina Liubyva, representing Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation, who shared practical examples of how open data contributes to digital governance and transparency in the country. Andreja Gluščević, from Serbia’s Office for Information Technologies and e-Government, presented Serbia’s efforts to encourage data reuse and strengthen engagement within its data community.
The webinar illustrated the value of open data as a tool for cross-border cooperation. By aligning with EU standards and participating in shared initiatives, Ukraine and Serbia are helping to build more transparent and interoperable data ecosystems. Their focus on promoting data reuse shows how open data can drive innovation, support public services, and create opportunities for collaboration beyond European borders.
