European Week of Regions and Cities: Where local innovation meets open data action

Discover how cities across Europe are leveraging data to improve lives and drive sustainable urban transformation

The European Week of Regions and Cities returns to Brussels this autumn, from Monday, 13 October to Wednesday, 15 October 2025, bringing together politicians, public officials, researchers, businesses, and citizens to explore how local and regional actors are shaping Europe’s future. Organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy and the European Committee of the Regions, it is the largest EU event dedicated to Cohesion Policy and a key platform for sharing knowledge, networking, and showcasing impact at the local level.

At data.europa.eu, we are excited to be part of this year’s programme with our own session together with Mastercard Europe: ‘Cities leveraging data for impact – showcasing real-life success stories.' This interactive workshop will take place on Tuesday, 14 October, from 09:30 to 10:30 CEST, and with real-life examples from the cities of Dublin and Warsaw, will explore the critical role of data in shaping innovative and sustainable urban environments.

By featuring real-world success stories, the workshop will demonstrate how urban centres across Europe are putting open data into action, whether to improve mobility, strengthen climate resilience, or design more inclusive services. Participants can look forward to engaging tools and discussions that bring the topic to life, all while reflecting on how cities can turn open data into better outcomes for their residents.

The registration for this event is now open, and we are warmly inviting anyone to join us in Brussels and be part of the conversation. Explore the full programme of the European Week of Regions and Cities and visit our Empowering Communities through EU Innovation stand.
