A recap of our 2025 data provider’s workshop: Bringing the open data community together in Tallinn
35 participants shared insights and connected through open data
Last week, the European Data Portal hosted an exciting event in Tallinn, Estonia! On 2 and 3 December, 35 participants coming from 20 different countries attended a workshop designed to bring data providers from across Europe together. Over the two days, the workshop had various presentations and networking opportunities, stimulating knowledge sharing and learning opportunities.
The first day was kicked off with a word of introduction by the Publications Office of the European Union. Afterwards, there was a keynote speech by the Estonian Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs (JUSTDIGI).
We finished the morning with the knowledge-sharing market, where each country got the chance to share their country’s opportunities and challenges relating to data governance, open data publication, and data quality. After lunch, Hugh Gardner from the Publication Office of the European Union facilitated a session on the Member State toolkit for measuring open data impact, where Spain and France also got to share their experience with measuring open data impact. The afternoon continued with a presentation on the highlights of the European Data Portal, focusing on the new version of the Open Data Maturity (ODM) web page.
The first day concluded with a session on High-Value Datasets (HVDs), where representatives from Denmark, Italy, and the Netherlands got to share their perspectives and insights on this topic, as well as a presentation on additional methods to measure open data maturity, with a focus on the current ODM assessment process and method. On the second day, we hosted the open data cafe networking opportunity and an interactive session on how to measure metadata quality. We wrapped up the workshop with a presentation of the policy landscape in the EU for data and technology, as well as a panel discussion on the interplay between open and protected data in the context of security.
We would like to thank all the participants for their enthusiasm, JUSTDIGI for hosting in the beautiful city of Tallinn, and DG CNECT for their valuable insights. Bringing European countries together to work on enhancing the usage of open data is crucial to enable a stronger future of data sharing.
