SEMIC conference 2022

Learn more about data spaces in an interoperable Europe

The Interoperability Unit of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Informatics (DIGIT) and the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU will host the 2022 edition of SEMIC: Data Spaces in an Interoperable Europe  on December 6. This year the conference will take place both in person, at the Square Meeting Centre in Brussels, and online. More information on how to participate either physically or remotely, can be found here.

The conference will revolve around the implementation of data spaces. In particular, the conference will offer support in overcoming obstacles in implementing data spaces and clarify doubts on how interoperability within and across sectors can be achieved. Moreover, data stories from EU Member States will demonstrate how the aggregation of data plays a pivotal role in gathering business intelligence and risk management processes. At the same time, further sessions will provide technical knowledge on use cases and semantic specifications.

Several policymakers, private sector stakeholders, and experts will gather to speak about their experiences in sharing and reuse of data. Among these also European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn and Director-General of the EU Publications Office, Hilde Hardeman, who will preside over to communicate the outline of the day together with Veronica Gaffey, Director-General “Informatics” at DIGIT.

Raising awareness regarding the need for semantic interoperability is in fact one of the missions of the EU Publications Office and its data.europa.eu. In this regard, by providing a single point access for all European open data, we support semantic interoperability, as well as the structuring and codification of the exchanged data.
