From claims to evidence: Discover our first data.europa academy webinar of November

Join the session to learn how fact-checking and open data can help assess information and counter misinformation

The data.europa academy invites researchers, data enthusiasts, policymakers and anyone interested in reliable information to join the webinar ‘Open data, academia, and ethics: fact-checking and countering misinformation’ on Friday, 6 November, from 10:00 to 11:15 CET. As misleading information spreads through online platforms, checking the evidence behind a claim becomes increasingly important. This third and final episode of the ‘Open data, academia, and ethics’ series will explore tools and research that support a more critical approach to information.

The session will feature Elena Musi from the University of Liverpool and Florian Stoeckel from the University of Exeter. Elena will explain what misinformation and disinformation are and how biases can affect how people share and understand claims. She will also introduce a fact-chekcing tool she developed through her research. Florian will discuss how people assess true and false information, and how interactions online can influence their perceptions

Participants will learn how to use verification tools and supporting evidence to assess the trustworthiness of online claims. The session will also explore the role of open data in making information easier to examine and research findings easier to check. Together, these perspectives will connect practical fact-checking with wider questions about research integrity, transparency and public trust.

Register for the webinar and join the discussion with our speakers. Feel free to share the invitation with colleagues and others interested in how data can help us assess information more confidently.
