Open Data Guide for Spanish Municipalities and Provinces

In May 2017, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (La Federación Española de Municipios y Provincias - FEMP) published an Open Data Guide to assist the Spanish municipalities and provinces in publishing their data. With this guide, the FEMP aims at fostering synergies between public administrations, universities, associations and private sector actors active in the Open Data field. Furthermore, the guide wishes to give the necessary impulses towards enhancing Open Data publishing and re-use at local level, and more importantly, create value for the citizens.

The Open Data Guide provides information on the main aspects to be considered by Open Data publishers such as prioritisation of data publishing, Open Data formats and standards, data privacy and data security, as well as on aspects surrounding the promotion of Open Data re-use at local level. The guide highlights the important role that municipalities play in the development of an Open Data culture, and emphasises the local administrations' role in fostering Open Data ecosystems that bring value to the economy and society as a whole.
