The seventh course of the restructured data.europa academy called ‘Improving open data and metadata quality’ will dive into providing and collecting high-quality quality data and metadata. Through webinars, reading materials and e-learnings, you will learn how to unlock the benefits of open data, understand the role of data.europa.eu, follow guidelines and navigate the opportunities and challenges of citizen-generated data.
To fully leverage the value of open data, it is important to clean the data initially. In the first lesson ‘Cleaning open data’ you will learn how to recognize data errors and apply fixes to clean your data. Following that, the different data formats will be explained in the lesson ‘Choosing the right format of open data’. The third lesson ‘What makes quality open data’ introduces guidelines and a tool to evaluate the quality of open data and understand the standards and markers of high-quality open data. The fourth lesson ‘Unlocking the benefits of open data with data.europa.eu’ delves into the role of data.europa.eu to publish and promote open data.
The fifth lesson ‘Guidelines on data and metadata quality’ focuses on creating high-quality DCAT-AP datasets and presents our guidelines and tools. You will explore how citizen generated data is being made available in open data portals in the sixth lesson ‘Opportunities and challenges of citizen generated data’. A common language is necessary to ensure that open data is interoperable and can be used by organisations and institutions across Europe. Therefore, the lesson ‘DCAT and DCAT-AP: Achieving interoperability through data modelling and standardisation’ introduces the language DCAT and DCAT-AP. The last lesson ‘Data citation: A guide to best practice’ equips you with the tools to properly cite data and improve quality and interoperability.
