The ISS Detector application tells users when and where to look for satellites

International Space Station (ISS) Detector is an application that is developed for people interested in space and astronomy. The application tracks satellites and tells users when and where to look for them. Users receive notifications when the ISS will fly over and when other comets, satellites and planets are about to enter the user's field of vision. In addition, the application shows the weather prediction to enable users to find a location with a clear sky to spot satellites and other space activities.

ISS Detector uses open data from multiple sources, such as open data from NASA,, and open weather data from This data is integrated and used to make predictions about satellites flying over and the best locations to spot satellites with the naked eye.

ISS Detector is one of the over 500 use cases published on the European Data Portal. If you are aware of another inspiring use case, share your experience and knowledge about different applications and websites using open data with the EDP via mail, Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn.
