Discover our portal’s apps: Useful tools to enhance the accessibility of open data

A central hub for accessing diverse open cutting-edge applications

Data.europa.eu not only hosts and provides a wide range of open datasets, we also foster transparency and collaboration by enabling various stakeholders to develop open data apps. These apps use openly available datasets to create innovative solutions that benefit the public in numerous ways.

One example is ANNIF, an open-source toolkit for automated subject indexing. ANNIF integrates several machine learning and AI-based algorithms for text classification, aiding in the tagging of EU Vocabulary properties for datasets. Another useful resource is the Data in Publications Guide, which offers authors and publishers practical advice on presenting and publishing data in a more user-friendly manner. This guide is formatted as an extendable checklist and includes tips, examples, resources, and visuals.

Additionally, the Data Visualisation Guide is an educational tool covering all aspects of data visualisation, organised into seven broad topics. The EURI Trends app shows CORDIS data and offers insights into EU research spending. This app assists users in exploring EU innovation, the contributions of various organisations, and rankings of projects, sectors, and budgets. For those curious about the similarities between different regions across Europe, the EU Twinnings web application provides an engaging experience. It enables users to explore and compare European regions through a 'virtual twinning' platform that calculates and visualises similarity measures using EU open data.

You can easily find all these apps by navigating to the 'Community' drop-down menu on the top bar and selecting the first option. Whether it's enhancing data visualisation, understanding research trends, or comparing regional similarities, explore a variety of apps that leverage these datasets to provide valuable solutions across different domains.
