Observing our planet through data: Destination Earth

Did you enjoy our webinar on Earth observation data? If you have any remaining questions or want to share your own thoughts on the topic, leave a comment below!

With the help of Earth observation data, we can monitor and predict various ecological and human-induced phenomena on our planet. To understand how this works in practice, our webinar focused on the Destination Earth project, featuring Daniel Draghicescu (DG CNECT), Dr Thore Fechner (con terra), and Michael Schick (EUMETSAT) as guests.

Have you used Earth observation data in your work or research before? Where do you think the Destination Earth initiative could be especially helpful?

A) DestinE Platform | STACK (SaaS Suite)
What seems to make the DestinE Platform (digital twins) different from other Earth Observation platforms is the ability to create and simulate what if scenarios. A soon coming service named STACK shall offer a SaaS suite which enables near data processing (JupyterHub, Dask/Dask Gateway and Data Cube).
I wonder what other software might as well make sense to be serviced, e.g. QGIS or ESA SNAP Toolbox (Sentinel Application Platform) which are both available in ESA's Dunia EO platform focussing on Africa [https://dunia.esa.int].

B) ESA Digital Twin Earth (DTE) Programme
At the ESA Open Science Meeting (2-4 February 2026, ESRIN, Frascati, Italy), the developers of the DestinE Platform hosted a presentation on innovation and collaboration and a session on how service providers can onboard their services onto the DestinE Platform, see meeting info [https://destination-earth.eu/event/esa-digital-twin-earth-components-open-science-meeting-2026/]. Some meeting slides seem to be available at the ESA event website [https://nikal.eventsair.com/esa-digital-twin-earth-components-open-science-meeting-2026].
I wonder if a dedicated collaboration channel here could be used for sharing/discussing this ESA DTE event (e.g its interaction with DestinE).

C) CDSE | Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem
CDSE is another program of the EU [https://dataspace.copernicus.eu/about].
I wonder how CDSE and DestinE can be used/shared along a typical data processing process. And as above, if a dedicated collaboration channel might make sense here.
