First year anniversary of the European Data Portal

The European Data Portal was launched a year ago to improve accessibility to Open Data across Europe. Whatever the language and whatever the country. Discover what has happened since November 2015

A year ago, the European Data Portal launched its Beta version. In November 2015, this version referenced 240,000 datasets and had metadata available in 3 languages. The launch was accompanied by the publication of a report assessing the economic benefits of Open Data and an overview of the state of play of Open Data in Europe. Because this is what the European Data Portal is all about: creating value through Open Data and supporting European Countries accelerate in publishing high quality datasets.

An important milestone for the European Data portal was February 2016, with the release of Version 1. What was special about Version 1? 3 months after the launch of the Beta version, v1 referenced 415,000 datasets and the portal was available in 6 languages. Several sections of the portals were reorganised, such as the library, as content was growing. The source code of the portal was released on GitLab shortly after going live with v1.

Progressively content grew, new sections were added, such as the featured data section to show insights derived from data made available on the portal. Full access to the licensing assistant was provided to help users understand licence compatibility. Increasing amount of use cases, new reports on Open Data and Privacy and Open Data in Cities were published.
In October 2016, more sections were added:

In a year, the portal, initially available in 3 languages is now available in 18 languages. It now contains 600,000 datasets, 124 use cases, over 200 articles, dozens of Open Data related events. And more under preparation for early 2017! Go on! Explore More!
