European Week of Regions and Cities 2017

Register for the session on Open Data

From 9 to 12 October 2017, the European Week of Regions and Cities will take place in Brussels. This is an annual Brussels-based four-day event during which officials from regions and cities' administrations, as well as experts and academics, can exchange good practices and know-how in the field of regional and urban development.

Around 6,000 participants and 600 speakers are expected to gather in Brussels for a full programme of 100 workshops, debates, exhibitions and networking events around the topic of regional and local development. Under the headline 'Regions and cities working for a better future', this year's edition tackles three main themes: Building resilient regions and cities; Regions and cities as change agents; and Sharing knowledge to deliver results. Under the second theme, the European Data Portal will chair the workshop 'Open Data driving innovation in cities' on 11 October.

The workshop will host representatives from two different cities who will present their approach to Open Data, how Open Data has become an agent of change when rolling out public services, the benefits they see from using Open Data and the expected long term impact of Open Data in their city. Representatives from the private sector will also be invited to show the tangible benefits of having access to this data.

Participants in the workshop will be welcomed to share their experiences with Open Data from their own areas of activity (as city administrators, application developers, civil society organisations, private sector actors or citizens). There is a limited amount of seats available for the workshop, so make sure not to miss out and register now! News and updates on the event can be found on Twitter via the hashtag #EURegionsWeek.
