Mapping Switzerland's fiduciary landscape with open register data

How Navor transforms Zefix data into aggregate insights while keeping its methods transparent

How can open company-register data help explain the structure of an entire professional sector? Navor's Swiss Fiduciary Landscape turns an April 2026 snapshot of over 17 000 Swiss companies classified as fiduciary or accounting providers into a multilingual public research resource. Instead of presenting a directory of individual businesses, it shows aggregate patterns by canton, city, legal form and founding period. The project illustrates how open register data can be reused to provide broader insights to the professional sector.

The analysis uses a two-stage method. Multilingual search terms first identify potentially relevant companies. An artificial intelligence review then considers each company's name, description and registered purpose, with the registered purpose serving as the main classification criterion. Navor publishes the methodology alongside the results, while excluding company names, addresses, contact details and company-level classification decisions. This helps users understand how the findings were produced and and interpret the aggregate results in context.

The underlying source is the Zefix central business name index, catalogued on the European Data Portal. Navor also uses Zefix data in its accounting service to help users locate active Swiss legal entities and verify business identification numbers. This demonstrates two different forms of reuse: supporting a practical product function and producing aggregate research that makes a market easier to understand.

“Open register data can reveal the structure of a market without becoming a directory of individual companies,” explains Simone Roznowicz, co-founder of Navor.
