INSPIRE datasets move to the European Data Portal

A new chapter for geospatial data discovery in Europe

From 1 July 2026, INSPIRE datasets will be searchable and accessible through the European Data Portal, making it easier to discover geospatial information alongside millions of other public sector datasets from across Europe. As part of this transition, the INSPIRE Geoportal will be retired on 1 July 2026.

This move ensures continued access to INSPIRE datasets, while making them easier to discover through a more integrated data ecosystem. The European Data Portal provides a single access point to data published by public administrations and organisations throughout Europe. By bringing INSPIRE datasets into this broader ecosystem, users can explore geospatial resources alongside other data on topics such as mobility, environment, energy, health and public services.

To support geospatial data users, the European Data Portal offers dedicated search capabilities, including a geospatial filter and a dedicated dashboard for high-value datasets (including geospatial datasets), providing insights by category, country, metadata quality and data format.  In addition, a geo-viewer enables users to preview geospatial distributions directly from the portal, helping them better understand available data before downloading and reusing it. Further filtering of INSPIRE datasets will also be added to the functionalities.

Whether you are a researcher, policymaker, developer, journalist or data enthusiast, the European Data Portal offers new opportunities to discover, access and reuse geospatial data from across Europe through a single, modern platform.
