Do you want to understand how data helps us observe the Earth and how initiatives like Destination Earth turn data into insights? Join us for the upcoming data.europa academy webinar ''Observing our planet through data: Destination Earth'', taking place on Friday, 13 February 2026, from 10.00 to 11.30 CET.
From tracking ecological changes in forests and oceans to predicting natural hazards, Earth observation (EO) data helps us better understand our planet. This webinar aims to make EO data more accessible by showing how it is collected, what it can reveal, and how European initiatives like Destination Earth turn it into meaningful insights.
During the webinar, Antje Kügeler, project manager for spatial data infrastructures at con terra, will open the session with an introduction to Earth observation data, explaining how it supports science, policy, and society. Building on this foundation, policy officer Daniel Draghicescu from DG CNECT will present Destination Earth, outlining its use cases and the EU’s policy objectives behind creating a digital twin of the planet. Finally, Michael Schick from EUMETSAT will offer a behind‑the‑scenes look at Destination Earth with a brief technical overview of how the platform, data lake, and digital twinsinteract to model natural and human systems. The webinar will wrap up with an interactive Q&A session, giving you the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers.
After registering, you will receive an email with a calendar invite and webinar link. This webinar is part of the ‘Incorporating data into your application' course offered by the data.europa academy and will be recorded for future access.
