World Health Day 2026: together for health, standing with science

How data and evidence support better health decisions for people, animals, and the planet

Every year on Tuesday, 7 April, World Health Day draws global attention to pressing health challenges and the actions needed to address them. In 2026, the day is marked under the theme ‘Together for health. Stand with science’, highlighting the role of scientific evidence and collaboration in protecting health worldwide. Led by the World Health Organization (WHO), the annual observance serves as a reminder that effective health policies depend on reliable data, shared knowledge, and trust in science.

This year’s theme launches a year‑long campaign that focuses on how science‑based cooperation can improve health outcomes for people, animals, plants, and the environment, following a One Health approach. World Health Day 2026 also coincides with major international moments, including a global summit on One Health and a forum bringing together hundreds of scientific institutions. Together, these initiatives underline the importance of turning research and data into practical action through international collaboration and evidence‑based decision‑making.

What does health data look like in practice? On the European Data Portal, thousands of openly available datasets paint a detailed picture of health across Europe. From vaccination rates and hospital capacity to public spending on healthcare, the portal offers data that helps compare trends across countries and regions. Maps showing the distribution of healthcare facilities add another layer of insight, highlighting differences between urban and rural areas. Together, these datasets help turn abstract health challenges into concrete, analysable information.
