Technologie informacyjno-komunikacyjne (ICT) są ważnym czynnikiem sprzyjającym innowacjom i wzrostowi gospodarczemu. Inwestycje w tej dziedzinie w ramach europejskich funduszy strukturalnych i inwestycyjnych mają na celu stymulowanie wzrostu regionalnego. Około 21,4 mld euro z europejskich funduszy strukturalnych i inwestycyjnych na lata 2014–2020 jest udostępnianych tylko na inwestycje w ICT.
