Open Data at the heart of Stockholm's smart city strategy
On 3 April 2017 the City Council of Stockholm adopted a strategy to further develop the smart city through coordination of the City's work on digitalisation. The strategy has been developed together with the citizens of Stockholm, as they could express their needs and interests in a survey that was conducted as part of the development of the smart city strategy. Germany publishes Data Protection Guide for Open Data
As indicated in a recent EDP report on barriers in working with Open Data, legal aspects sometimes prevent data holders from opening up their data. This is particularly true when privacy concerns play a role. With the forthcoming adoption of the Open Data Act, Germany wishes to address these concerns and take the next steps in their Open Data journey. Open Data Champions Programme
The Open Data Champions Programme calls for applicants working with Open Data in the public sector in Europe to take part in an exciting three-day programme of training and peer support in London. The programme equips participants with tools and knowledge to be effective leaders in Open Data. Italy publishes guidelines for data catalogues
The Agency for Digital Italy has made the Guidelines for data catalogues available, a document addressed to all Italian public entities that publish data in open format through a dedicated catalogue. It provides operational assistance and information on nutrition, renovation and classification of data sets according to the national DCAT-AP_IT metadata standard. Guide to encourage citizens' participation in Open Data policies
The Sunlight Foundation, a non-profit organisation working on government transparency, has launched a guide to help local governments increase citizen participation in their Open Data policies and improve communities through public information. New report on the Spanish Infomediary sector
The European Data Portal report on the re-use of Open Data stressed the increasing importance of the infomediary sector. This refers to companies working on the collection, curation and aggregation of (Open) Data. Series of Irish Open Data workshops
Open Knowledge Ireland ran the first of a series of 4 citizen workshops focused on exploring use cases of Open Data. The workshop took place on 25 March, and focused on discovering how Open Data can help the ever present Hospital Waiting List problem. The workshop was supported by the Irish Open Data engagement fund. With the workshop, a space was created to build engagement around Open Data and hospital waiting lists and it offered participants a practical way to get involved.
