The Government Digital Service (GDS) in the UK launches an API (application programming interface) for the national data
As many governments have set the base for Open Data Reuse by facilitating Open data publications, the focus now more and more shifts to the reuse of Open Data and user behaviour. The Government Digital Service (GDS) in the UK launched an API for content from GOV.UK as a step towards making more open data available from government sources and encouraging the reuse. With the launch of the API, the team has begun to use Google Analytics to track hits to the API and its documentation microsite and analyse trends. The recent Facebook scandal impacts Open Data development
Facebook has faced intense criticism after it emerged that it had known for years that Cambridge Analytica had collected data from millions of its users, but had relied on the London-based firm to self-certify that it had deleted the information. Facebook believes the data of up to 87 million people was improperly shared with the political consultancy in London. The issue gains international attention and raises insecurity about sharing data. Moreover, the incident is used by several parties to support their own interest, for example to slow down the open banking development. Commonwealth Bank

How to embed Open Data when facing political change
Europeans have barely had time to draw breath after a big year of elections in 2017. But it will not be long before much of the continent heads for the polls in 2018. Czech, Italy, Russia, Hungary, Sweden, Poland, Luxembourg, Ireland to name a few countries. The Open Data Charter compiled brief guidelines on how to support Open Data development in a changing political environment: De-politicise and institutionalise the policy area, so that it has a strong administrative foundation and can avoid becoming closely associated with one leader or party brand. Broaden ownership of the initiative, so
Open Data Beer Switzerland
To engage the active online Open Data community in Switzerland also in the 'real world' several Open Data providers got together and hosted the first Open Data Beer event in Switzerland in January 2018. The idea is simple: A welcome beer, followed by 2 x 10 minutes of short presentations from people from the Open Data environment, a data owner and a data user. Then there is beer again (and of course, other drinks) and interesting discussions around Open Data, the re-use, and possible applications. With its semi-formal character, the event was such a success, that it will be repeated in April
Boer&Bunder for "beautiful new innovative products for farmers"
Boer&Bunder is an initiative offering 700,000 parcels of land, in a simple and intuitive way. The site visualises all available data on parcel level in the Netherlands. Such as the height classification, the eligible area, what has been cultivated in recent years, and how the soil type is divided within the parcel. Based on satellite images, growth can be monitored and the cadastral map tells how a parcel is divided into cadastral parcels. The site is a product of open innovation, realised through a hackathon. At the introduction, Boer&Bunder was quite confronting for many farmers seeing the
European Commission and India's Department of Space share Earth observation satellite data.
Recognising that data sharing will provide mutual benefits, in particular in the pursuit of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, the European Commission and India's Department of Space (DOS), have decided to sign a cooperation arrangement with the aim to strengthen and stimulate cooperation on Earth observation and mutual access to the data from the European Union's Sentinel series of satellites and from the Indian Earth observation satellites. This strengthens the geospatial sector, rises awareness for further opening data in the sector, and sharing it internationally. Under the
