Game of Code hackathon brings coding enthusiasts together from all over Europe
With the motto "Join the geeks", the IT One, the first platform for ICT decision-makers in Luxembourg, hosted coding enthusiasts to their hackathon "Game of Code" on 16 and 17 March 2018 in Luxembourg. Benefitting from the advice of technical experts and coaches, the teams had to tackle three coding challenges: Machine learning, Open Data Challenge, and Make@on. Participants had 24 hours to code, to discover new coding techniques, and to exchange knowledge with the competition from all over Europe. Open Belgium is an initiative to make Belgian knowledge open, usable, used, useful. Launch of DATA.GOV.IE Version 3.0
A new and improved version of the national Open Data portal, data.gov.ie was recently launched. It is the third iteration of the portal now using CKAN version 2.8 and facilitating an improved administrative flow. While the portal still has a familiar look and feel for users, substantial upgrades were realised including backend processes, harvesting and usability of the site. PoliVisu enhances public involvement and support in urban policy making
PoliVisu is a research and innovation project designed to evolve traditional public policy making using data. Created in 2017 by a consortium of cities and tech partners, under guidance from an international policy experts panel, PoliVisu thrives to equip cities to manage operations more effectively. Proposal for a revised Public-Sector Information (PSI) Directive
The European Commission adopted a proposal for a revised PSI Directive. The proposal aims to overcome the barriers that still prevent the full re-use of public sector information and to make public sector data and public research data more available. One focus is supporting start-ups in their work with Open Data. The changes proposed are to: Reduce market entry barriers, in particular for SMEs; Increase the availability of data by bringing new types of public and publicly funded data into the scope of the Directive, such as research data and scientific information resulting from public funding
Webinar: Introduction of the new Italian geo data portal geodati.gov.it
As reported last week on the EDP News, the Agency for Digital Italy launched an improved version of their geodata portal Repertorio Nazionale dei Dati Territoriali (RNDT). To illustrate the new functionalities, a webinar will take place on 9 May, 12:00 to 13:00. In addition, the planned activities towards integration with other data catalogues like dati.gov.it to support an overarching information infrastructure in the public sector in Italy will be further explained. Improving data.gov.uk to facilitate finding and re-using open government data in UK
Since 2010 data.gov.uk has been supporting users to find and use open government data and facilitating government publishers to maintain data. The Government Transformation Strategy promotes better use of data. Recently UK's national data portal changed its publishing tool and plans to launch a new improved service by June 2018. The change comes with a new design and a new name, already in place: "Find open data". The Government Digital Service (GDS) maintains the service behind data.gov.uk and helps publishers to manage and update their data. You can find: data published by central government
